“THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING”

X Factor Flops - is it the last we'll see of them?

We really hope we see Sophie Habibis again (without resorting to hiding behind her bins). But is it likely? Every X Factor evictee this year has told us the same story: “This isn’t the last you’ll see of me”, “This is just the beginning”, “I can make a noise like a robot”… But are they kidding themselves? If even last year’s winner is on shaky ground, what hope for those cast out early by a wave of Walsh’s hand?

We can count X Factor winner success stories on one of Steve Brookstein’s clenched fists.

In order of career safety, they are…

  1. Leona Lewis
  2. Alexandra Burke

Um…

Er…

Shayne Ward’s in that musical now.

Oh.

Some of the runners up are faring better:

  1. JLS
  2. Olly Murs (why?)
  3. One Direction
  4. Rebecca Ferguson (the new stuff is immense)

But that’s not a lot to show for seven series. So what can the likes of Amelia Lily (remember her?), James Michael (remember him?) and Nu Vibe (we’re trying to forget them) hope for, based on past shows?

The answer: panto & personal appearances at Liquid in Romford.

Of all the X Factor contestants who’ve failed to make the final three, only Jedward (6th) and Diana Vickers (4th) continue to carve out a career as anything other than people who were once on X Factor.

Though special mention must go to the Dolly Rockers, who never made it out of bootcamp but are now holed up in the studio with super-producer RedOne.

So dreams can come true! Though statistically they won't.
