PUT AN OINK ON IT

Best ever celebrity publicity stunt #6: Spider Pig over Battersea

Everyone loves 'The Simpsons Movie' for it’s hilarious ‘Spider Pig’ song and the other bit with Spider Pig in and that bit at the end where they sing the ‘Spider Pig’ song again. There were other bits but they were unfunny and boring like all modern Simpsons episodes insist on being.

As if to prove that not everyone in PR spent their school days licking the Pritt Stick during ‘quiet time’, the film’s UK promotion included painting a giant ‘prehistoric’ Homer next to the Cerne Abbas Giant, in Dorset, which they later topped for the 2007 DVD campaign by floating a 12ft inflatable Spider Pig over Battersea Power Station, in tribute to the legendary Pink Floyd album cover. Apparently a marksman was on standby in case, like the Floyd’s porker, Spider Pig broke free form his moorings and bothered the passing planes.
